SECRET TIPS
Getting a massage is a wonderful way to de-stress, but how you prepare and behave can significantly impact how much relief you actually get.
Here is a guide to help you get the most out of your next session, categorized by the phase of your appointment.
Before You Arrive
✔ Eat Lightly: Avoid eating a heavy meal right before your massage. Lying face-down with a full stomach can be very uncomfortable.
✔ Hydrate: Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Well-hydrated muscles are more pliable and easier for the therapist to work on.
✔ Arrive Early: Rushing into the spa keeps your “fight or flight” response active. Arrive 10-15 minutes early to sit, breathe, and fill out any necessary paperwork.
Post-Massage Care
✔ Get Up Slowly: You might feel lightheaded or “massage drunk” after lying down for an hour. Take your time sitting up.
✔ Keep Hydrating: Massage can be dehydrating and may stimulate the lymphatic system. Water helps your body process the session.
✔ Notice the Changes: Take a mental note of where you feel more “open” or where soreness persists. This is great information to give your therapist at your next visit.
✔ Avoid Intense Workouts: Your muscles have just been worked over. Give them 12–24 hours to recover before hitting the gym or doing heavy lifting.
